These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Pax Legis platform, database, and associated services (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you ("User" or "Subscriber") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

The Service provides an aggregated, searchable digital database of Philippine jurisprudence (Supreme Court decisions), Republic Acts, Batas Pambansa, Presidential Decrees, and Executive Orders. The Service utilizes proprietary algorithms, Full-Text Search (FTS5) capabilities, and machine-readable data compiled from public records.

2. User Accounts and Subscriptions

Eligibility: Users are strictly presumed to be members of the Philippine Bar, law students, legal researchers, or persons using the platform for lawful research.
Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. Sharing accounts across multiple unauthorized users is strictly prohibited and constitutes grounds for immediate termination without refund.
Subscription Terms: Access to premium archives (e.g., cases prior to the current year) requires an active Monthly or Lifetime subscription. Subscriptions are billed in advance. All payments are final and non-refundable, except as required by law.

3. Acceptable Use and Restrictions

You agree to use the Service strictly for personal, educational, or professional legal research. You shall not:

Use automated bots, scripts, or similar tools to bulk-download, extract, or reproduce the database in whole or in part.
Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the search engine.
Resell, sublicense, or commercially distribute the database or search results as a standalone product.
Use the platform to train Large Language Models (LLMs) or Artificial Intelligence without explicit written permission.

4. Intellectual Property

While the raw text of judicial decisions and statutes are public domain documents (Sec. 9, Republic Act No. 8293), the proprietary arrangement, search algorithms, user interface, compilation, and specific digital formatting of the Service are the exclusive intellectual property of the platform. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access the Service.

5. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any breach of these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will cease immediately.

Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it in compliance with the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173).

1. Information We Collect

Personal Data: When you register, we collect your name, email address, and professional affiliation (e.g., law firm name, Roll of Attorneys number if provided).
Usage Data: We log search queries, accessed cases, and IP addresses to optimize our search algorithms and prevent unauthorized account sharing.
Financial Data: Payments are processed securely via third-party gateways (e.g., PayMongo, GCash). We do not store your credit card numbers or financial credentials on our servers.

2. How We Use Your Data

Your data is strictly used to:

Provide, maintain, and personalize the Service (e.g., White-Label PDF exports).
Process subscriptions and issue electronic receipts.
Monitor and enforce compliance with our Terms of Use regarding account sharing.
Respond to customer support inquiries.

3. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties. We may share data only with trusted service providers (e.g., cloud hosting via Cloudflare/Render, payment processors) strictly necessary for operating the platform. These providers are bound by strict confidentiality obligations.

4. User Rights under the DPA of 2012

You have the right to be informed, to object, to access, to rectify, to erase or block, and to secure data portability of your personal data. To exercise these rights, please contact our Data Protection Officer.

5. Data Security

We implement robust encryption (HTTPS/TLS) and secure database architectures to protect your information. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

The legal documents contained in this database have been compiled, organized, and indexed from publicly available records, government websites, and official publications. The platform serves as a private indexing and search tool that facilitates access to publicly available legal information. We do not claim ownership of the underlying legal texts, which remain public domain documents pursuant to Section 9 of Republic Act No. 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines).

3. Accuracy and Completeness of Database

We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, adequacy, validity, reliability, availability, or completeness of any information on the site. Users acknowledge and agree that:

Textual Errors: The database may contain typographical errors, OCR artifacts, missing images, broken formatting, or other inconsistencies resulting from the automated processing, digitization, and indexing of legacy documents and historical records.
Omissions (Not 100% Complete): The database does not purport to contain every decision, statute, administrative issuance, or legal document ever promulgated or enacted in the Philippines. Some judicial decisions, PDFs, document images, or administrative circulars may be absent. We do not guarantee completeness. Users are strictly advised to verify and cross-reference all citations with official sources such as the Supreme Court Reports Annotated (SCRA), the Official Gazette, the Philippine Law Gazette, or the official websites of the respective government agencies.

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Pax Legis, its owners, developers, operators, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from or related to your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

6. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and any dispute arising out of or in connection with the Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of the Philippines. Any legal action or proceeding arising under these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the courts of competent jurisdiction in the Philippines, and you hereby consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue therein.

7. Severability

If any provision of this Disclaimer or these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining provisions, which shall continue in full force and effect.

8. Changes to This Disclaimer

We reserve the right to modify or update this Disclaimer at any time without prior notice. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. It is your responsibility to review this page periodically for updates.
